Friday was the first day of actually playing the organ as part of the job. There was a funeral on island of Løkta which involved a ferry ride - Dønna to Sandessjøen then to Løkta and then a short drive to the church. I didn't take any photos of the church or the organ as I felt it'd be slightly disrespectful considering the circumstances. Another Johannus organ - this time 2 manuals with a straight pedal board. As had been previously discussed I was only to play the postlude as the coffin left the church and if anybody is interested I played "O Welt ich muss dich lassen" by Brahms. Afterwards there was a long wait until the departure of the ferry back to Dønna so with my now extensive vocabulary of Norwegian, I asked "Kafé?" And indeed there was. In a fabulous shop that reminded me of the sort of shop you'd see in "Open all hours" or the "Four Candles" sketch? Sold absolutely everything and doubled up as a cafe during the day and apparently a bar in the evening.
In the evening I was invited by a colleague Jelena to join her, her husband and a friend for a meal at a local restaurant famed for its fish dishes. Of all the things I may or may not be known for, ambitious eating habits is not one of them but in the spirit of what a friend told me ("just say yes") I agreed and followed them to the destination. Apparently one of specialities was fish liver (if I got the translation correct) so as well as the main dish of fish (with some vegetables) there were theses small livers in a sauce. Feeling rather proud of myself I tucked in and tried everything :-)
There was also some music to accompany the evening and a very pleasant time was had by all. Thanks Jelena :-)
How was the fish? Was it seasoned? Could it have been fish eggs? That looks more like eggs next to the fish chunks.
Oh gosh these are serious ferries! I was imagining our little flat bed things. Wow. Well that was quite a day! Loving this blog😉🤗
