The most difficult question....

Writer's picture: Graeme StevensonGraeme Stevenson

Yesterday started and finished with animals. Over breakfast I had the lovely vision of deer grazing outside my kitchen window - it has to be said I've seen worst sights first thing in the morning (mirrors mainly). At the opposite extreme when I returned home at the end of the day I felt like someone out of Shaun the Sheep.... On the opposite side of the house is a farm and the small flock of sheep seemed to take an instant dislike to me and advanced towards me en masse will bleating. You win some...

Thursday was a day down in the Herøy office where I met some more of the team. A very happy time was had as well as copious amounts of coffee being drunk (I think I'll fit in well!). On a more serious note I had a meeting with Petter (the minister) and Venera (the organist who has been deputising at the churches while they were looking for someone permanent) to sort out the music for the upcoming services. As well as the 2 Sunday services there was a funeral to be planned. At one of the services there is to be a baptism and as Venera already knows what she is doing I thought it best to take a back seat this week and mainly listen (apart from anything else I don't want to ruin someone's special day - flashback to some poor soul's wedding circa 1990. Shudder). So it was agreed that I'll play the postlude at the funeral and the last hymn and postlude at the services.

After the important discussions of the day (including the possibility of streaming a concert on Monday at somepoint), I had a very pleasant discussion with Bård over the merits of various Emerson Lake and Palmer tracks (did I say I think I'll fit in?). Vehemently disagree with his choice of his favourite track but it's nice to share a love of the same music.

The most difficult question? "How do you pronounce your name?" And suddenly having to think about it. Graym? Gray-um? My daughter has fond memories of the various humiliations I went through at Starbucks in London with various versions of my name I seem to recall being called "Guy" at one poinet. I eventually called myself Martin just for simplicity's sake.

This is where I confess to pronouncing it Gray-eem every time I have to write Graeme.

I think I say Gray'm for your spelling and Gray-um for Graham.

If making s'mores I avoid the word by using chocolate digestives.

Brilliant! Great read. Martin’s Blog? Heehee……nah, maybe not. Can they call you G??? Isn’t there a form of Graeme in Gàidhlig? Bet they could say that!
